Computing Resources
Pharmacological Sciences has over 230 computer workstations running Windows XP/2000, MacOS X, Redhat Linux, and SGI IRIX. All of these computers are networked together over a 10/100/1000BaseT switched Ethernet LAN that is connected to the rest of Stony Brook campus, as well as the Internet. The Department provides E-mail (web-based & IMAPS, with no space restrictions), web-based group calendaring/scheduling, network disk space via central RAID-based file servers (approx 3TB), automatic central tape backups, and a departmental web site for disseminating information (Apache). There are also a half dozen SGI graphics workstations for use for Molecular Visualization & Dynamics. The Department also has licenses/access to a variety of scientific analysis programs such as Vector NTI and Genepring.
