Libraries

The Health Sciences library serves the educational needs of the various Programs in Health Sciences and functions as a regional resource accessible to health care professionals throughout Long Island. The library maintains a collection of over 275,000
volumes and receives over 3,400 periodicals in the fields of basic health sciences, medicine, dental medicine, nursing and social welfare.

The Frank Melville, Jr. Memorial Library provides both an intellectual and physical focal point for the University campus. It is among the largest academic libraries in the nation. Within the architecturally distinctive Frank Melville, Jr. building are collections in the social sciences, humanities, fine arts, and music. The Senator Jacob K. Javits collection of private papers and memorabilia is also of interest. Its 200 million items establishes it as one of the nation's leading archives of 20th-century congressional papers. The William Butler Yeats Archives and the Institute for Advanced Studies of World Religions also are of mention due to their outstanding scope and range.

The Stony Brook campus has several libraries to meet the information needs of students and faculty. The Department of Pharmacological Sciences maintains its own library, that includes all course textbooks, web access to the most cited scientific periodicals along, with professionally bound copies of the dissertation of each graduate of the Program. The Department's library ensures a comfortable area for students to work, study, and relax.
