By Plane
The Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip is 16 miles from the campus and is serviced by direct flights by major airlines and commuter lines. New York City Area Airports (JFK, LaGuardia and Newark) airports are 50 miles to the west.

By Car
From the west (Manhattan)- Take the Queen's Midtown Tunnel to the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) eastbound.

From the north (Bronx)- Take the Throgs Neck Bridge (I-295) or Whitestone Bridge (I-678) to the Cross Island Parkway South. After 4 miles take the LIE (I-495) east.

From the south (Staten Island) - Take the Verrazano Bridge onto the Belt parkway (I-278) east. After JFK International Airport, the road will divide. Bear left for the Cross Island Parkway North. Take the Cross Island Parkway North 4 miles to the LIE (I-495) east.

Once on the LIE (I-495) take it east to exit 62. Follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for nine miles. The entrance to the University Hospital where the Basic Sciences Tower is and Pharmacological Sciences is to the right. Park in the parking garage near the Hospital main entrance.

By Ferry
The Bridgeport to Port Jefferson Ferry travels from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Port Jefferson, Long Island. The Cross Sound Ferry travels from New London, Connecticut, to Orient Point, Long Island. After crossing to either Port Jefferson or Orient Point, take Route 25A west to Nicolls Road, the University entrances are the first 3 intersections you come to.

By Train
Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line from Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. The train station is at the north border of the campus and bus service to the central campus is provided. Some trains require changing at Jamaica Station and some at Huntington Station.
