About Zickler Lectures

zicklers The Zickler Lectures

The Zickler Lecture series, established by Leo and Judy Zickler of Bethesda, Maryland, was inaugurated in 1988 , in conjunction with the establishment of the Zickler Laboratory of Chemical Biology (LCB) in the Department of Pharmacological Sciences at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Captivated by the achievements of molecular medicine and alert to the needs of scientific research, Mr. and Mrs. Zickler have made a number or philanthropic gifts to the School of Medicine, most recently providing support for a Zickler Scholar in Translational Research.

The Zickler Lecture has become a premier event at Stony Brook and is given by internationally distinguished scientists. Of the 13 Zickler Visiting Lecturers, eight have received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The 1997 lecture by Dr. Alfred Gilman was broadcast live via state-of-the-art video teleconferencing to universities throughout the United States and Canada.
