Project: My current focus of interest is the bypass of different kinds of interstrand crosslinks (ICLs) by different translesion synthesis (TLS) polymerases. Recent studies proposed TLS to be a crucial step in the removal of interstrand crosslinks. It was suggested that the crosslink is unhooked, bypassed and finally removed by a second round of excision repair. Though details about the process are still unclear. Therefore it is important to understand more about the ability of TLS polymerases to deal with ICLs.
