APSA Annual Meeting Announcement
December 1, 2007

As the President of APSA, it is my pleasure to announce APSA's 4th Annual Meeting. This meeting will take place at the Fairmont Hotel and the Mid-America Club in Chicago, IL on April 25-27th, 2008 in conjunction with the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association for American Physicians, the Central Society for Clinical Research, and the Midwestern Section of the American Federation for Medical Research.

On behalf of the 2008 APSA Annual Meeting Planning Committee, we have worked diligently to bring students a meeting that is not only full of stellar speakers but also gives students the opportunity to be exposed to the wide myriad of career opportunities available to physician-scientists. Speakers represent every major field of medicine, academia, NIH, and industry. These renowned speakers include NIH Institute Directors, Howard Hughes Medical Investigators, Department Chairs, AAAS Fellows, MacArthur Fellow, Vice President of Research of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Amgen, Inc., Institute of Medicine Members, and the Medical Director of Partners in Health.

In this meeting, APSA attendees have complete access to APSA, ASCI/AAP, and CSCR/MWAFMR events. In addition to further one-on-one interactions with leading physician-scientists, attendees will have the opportunity to present their scientific research at the ASCI Poster Session, and the CSCR/MWAFMR Poster Sessions. In addition to this prime presentation time, we have spent a great deal of time in conjunction with ASCI to provide the very best of opportunities to network and learn from fellow colleagues as well as listen to exceptional speakers and learn from their personal experiences. The substantial program includes Mentorship Breakfasts as well as an interactive luncheon with medical residency directors from across the nation. Also, to continue addressing career issues, there will continue to be a career panel that will address more long term career issues and a new addition this year a panel of residents and fellows that will address residency training questions. Lastly, a career development session focused on the topics Negotiation Skills and Conflict Resolution will also be held to better prepare physician-scientist trainees.

The tentative agenda for the meeting has been sent in a separate email. The PDF version can be found on our website. Each event has been labeled with its sponsoring organization. Please note that the ASCI and APSA Meetings will take place at the Fairmont Hotel (April 25-27), while the CSCR/MWAFMR Combined Annual Meeting will take place at the Mid- America Club (April 24-25). The meeting site can be found at http://meeting.physicianscientists.org/. Conference registration is now open at a reduced price of $35.00 and is available - see link.

We would certainly appreciate your support in passing on the meeting announcement/agenda (that you will receive in a separate email) on to your MD- PhD students and to whomever else you think would benefit from attending this stellar opportunity. We also invite you to attend the meeting as well. Please come out with your students and have a wonderful time with others from across the country. We look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Freddy Nguyen
